How to Nail Your Next AMA
Here's how to sell your project like a rock star
Overview
Nailing your AMAs is key to growing both your community and your price!
The strategy I’m showing you today is one I honed speaking in front of thousands of people. Here’s what we’re covering:
Selecting your host
Preparation
Delivering the AMA
I’ll share tips for you within each of these four buckets that you can simply review and check off.
Selecting Your Host
Choosing the correct channel or Twitter account to host your AMA is really important. You’re spending money and you need to show results.
Tips
Check prior AMAs and review performance/chart. Pinned messages in their Telegram chat or Twitter.
Ensure followers represent community members you’d love to have
Make sure there’s a professional vibe
It must be in voice - Text AMAs are terrible
Prioritize video as much as possible
Check their marketing and promotional activities leading up to AMAs. Do they get a lot of views on Twitter/Telegram? Do they have engagement?
Check the cost against potential ROI and how many attendees may show up
Ensure the channel or Twitter account isn’t filled with bots
Preparation
This is where separation usually sets in. Most projects just show up to the AMA without a whole lot of prep going into them. Here’s what you want to do instead.
Tips
Have a team member attend a few AMAs prior or listen to some recordings. Were there a lot of people? Were the questions good?
Get a list of questions you’ll be asked in advance
Create a visual presentation instead of just speaking - far more engaging. Make sure it’s on-brand and well-designed. Not word-heavy.
Practice your AMA very thoroughly so you’re well-prepared
Ensure marketing has created appropriate posts to drive awareness to the AMA and build up big numbers. Have your community join their channel and the AMA.
Outline questions you’re worried about and then form responses to each (in writing)
Have your own agenda outside of the AMA channel’s. You paid for this and it’s a sales pitch!
Have a clear plan to convert AMA attendees to your community - this is the primary goal! Once they are in your community you can engage, build trust and convert to holders.
Send all materials, including your presentation, do the AMA channel and host so they can prepare. This helps everyone win together!
Delivering the AMA
Here’s where the rubber meets the road! Throughout this entire AMA, your goal is to sell a grand vision and drive attendees to your community to convert them as holders. Here’s what to focus on.
Tips
Have a few calls to action within to join your community. Make sure links are very visible so there’s minimal friction.
Vary your tone and have passion in your voice. Consistent tone will kill people’s attention.
Be succinct in your responses so you can get through as much material as possible. You never know what objections people have or what they may need to hear to convert.
Focus on large numbers: “$100B market opportunity.” “Already 25,000 users on our app before launch”.
Sell the exciting future state, not the present
Get on video and connect with the audience in a more engaging way
Direct attendees to a post-AMA giveaway or special event in your community afterwards. Remember - you must convert them to your community!
Answer all questions with positivity and professionalism. I’ve even had hosts themselves be rude to me. Ignore it all and move forward.
Ensure it’s recorded so you can share and use for additional marketing activities, even splicing up bite-sized chunks that were the best parts.
